Harmonic Suppressor

The Weber Harmonic Suppressor is designed to reduce unwanted overtones created by the strings between the bridge and tailpiece of acoustic instruments. 

These short lengths of string can produce additional harmonics and ringing that may add unwanted noise or coloration to the instrument’s sound. The effect can be especially noticeable in recording environments, where clarity, separation, and tonal balance are critical.

Whether you are recording in the studio or simply looking to get the cleanest, most focused tone from your instrument, the Harmonic Suppressor helps reduce these unwanted vibrations without affecting the instrument’s primary sound.

Each Weber Harmonic Suppressor is made in our shop in Bend, Oregon, and finished with tung oil.

Available Sizes

The Weber Harmonic Suppressor is available for mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, and mandocello. Each model is sized according to the common string spacing measured from the center of the bass strings to the center of the treble strings.

Mandolin: 1 3/8"                        Mandola: 1 1/2"
Octave Mandolin: 1 3/4"       Mandocello: 1 13/16"

The Harmonic Suppressor can also be used on instruments with similar string spacing. With slightly wider spacing, it can be positioned closer to the tailpiece. With slightly narrower spacing, it can be installed at a slight angle.

Install the Harmonic Suppressor on the strings, halfway between the bridge and the tailpiece. Spread the treble set of strings and slide the grommet down between them. Release the strings when they are in the grommet groove. Repeat on the bass set of strings. It may be angled slightly to match your string spacing.

Slide the Harmonic Suppressor into a position behind the bridge that is comfortable for your playing style. Do not touch the bridge or the saddle with the Suppressor.
