Sound Holes

F-Hole

F-Hole

F-Holes are the most traditional and have the look and sound most people are looking for in a mandolin family instrument. F-Holes are known for that sought after “bark” or “chop”. F-Holes focus the sound projection which equals volume. They are ideal for stage work and for being heard above other instruments in the band. They are constructed with tone bars which aide in hand-voicing each instrument.

Oval Hole

The oval hole allows for more widely dispersed projection with warmer tone. They blend well with other instruments in a band or orchestra. Instruments built with oval holes require an X-bracing system which requires a slightly different approach to hand-voicing.
