Daniel Mark

Daniel has always studied music, but before discovering the mandolin it played a secondary role in his life. Growing up he played the violin, and attended music programs at both Interlochen and Tanglewood for music composition.  In college, he received his B.A. in Political Science, and then worked for a variety of environmental programs. While visiting Israel one summer he picked up his Uncle's mandolin and instantly fell in love. Upon returning to Los Angeles he responded to a Craigslist ad posted by the Dustbowl Revival, who were looking for a mandolin player.  Six years later, the Dustbowl tours nationally, and has opened for bands such as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty and Lake Street Dive. Daniel's musical style ranges from bluegrass, to dixieland, swing, blues, folk and soul. He wrote the music to Dustbowl's track "Dan's Jam", which won an Independent Music Award for Best Americana Song. When not touring with the Dustbowl, he plays with a variety of other groups, including jug band legend Jim Kweskin, the Get Down Boys, and the T Sisters--with whom he recently had the honor to play with on A Prairie Home Companion. He plays a Weber Bitterroot A-style, which he loves.
